Consumers Credit Union Expands Mortgage and Business Services Team

March 2020 new hire class

Kalamazoo, MICH — Consumers Credit Union is pleased to announce the addition of three mortgage loan officers to the Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids markets, three business development managers to the Kalamazoo and Lakeshore markets, and a new compliance manager. See below for information about some of Consumers’ newest team members.
Heather Chapin is ready to help you get a mortgage!

Heather Chapin’s primary goal is to build long-lasting connections with the members she helps with a home purchase. And she’s no stranger to hard work. After college, Heather worked as a mortgage loan officer for many years before starting her own mobile notary service.

“I truly find fulfillment in helping people in my community save money and make great financial choices,” Chapin said. “I love my job because I get to combine my two favorite things: working with people and crunching numbers!”

Chapin will cover Consumers’ Grandville office in Grand Rapids.

Zach Cook learned his trade from hands-on experience.

“I worked as a junior mortgage loan officer under the wing of a national top 50 performer,” Cook recalled. “I learned the value of maintaining a high level of communication from the first phone call all the way through closing.”

Through years of learning and hard work, Cook built a book of business with a kind heart and a determination to ensure the satisfaction of all his clients. He takes pride in treating people like family.

Cook will be originating mortgage loans at Consumers’ Cascade office in Grand Rapids.

Mortgage loans help you get a house!Holly Madill started her career in mortgage origination at the best place—the very beginning. Though she’s only been in the mortgage industry a short while, her experience with loan set up allows her to understand the entire process for borrowers, realtors and loan originators. In fact, it helped propel her to her current role.

“I love helping people get into new homes and watch their faces light up when they get the keys,” Madill said.

Madill looks forward to helping Consumers’ members and community from the Kalamazoo market out of the corporate call center.

Business services helps you!Starting a business is hard, but strengthening it over time is even harder. This is where new Business Development Manager Sandy Bloem steps in. In her career, she has served as the past president and executive director for the Economic Development Foundation in Grand Rapids, worked as a Small Business Association underwriter and been hands-on as a business relationship manager.

“My entire adult working experience has revolved around business lending,” Bloem said. “This has given me the immense appreciation for how difficult it is to successfully own and run a small business. If I can make their life easier, I have been successful.”

Consumers is proud to have Bloem join the business development team that is helping businesses grow along the Lakeshore.

Our business services team helps you grow!Ed Casehas spent the last 14 years of his career working with the entrepreneurs of Southwest Michigan to help them build their businesses from the ground up.

“When you want something from someone, give something instead,” Case said. “I want to build successful relationships, and I do that by helping business owners succeed financially so they can focus on their passions and running their businesses well.”

Case will use his connections to learn and build bridges for business members and the community in Consumers’ Kalamazoo market.

Business services helps your business grow! With over 13 years of experience in personal and commercial banking, Matthew Hunt knows that every business is unique and that no solution is one-size-fits-all. Looking at a business’ past, present and future helps Hunt construct solutions that are tailored to each member’s different needs.

“Effectively working with members requires strong follow-up and regular contact,” he said. “Continued growth for the members and the credit union comes from nurturing my business relationships.”

Hunt will bring his drive and experience working in West Michigan to serve businesses in Consumers’ Kalamazoo market.

Petrea SchumacherPetrea Shumacher, Consumers’ new compliance and risk manager, has always had an interest in the legal aspects of life, even as a child. After law school at Michigan State University, Shumacher worked with Trott Law, P.C. as associate corporate counsel and later at a community bank as risk manager.

“I enjoy bringing behind-the-scenes support to empower our employees,” Shumacher said. “My role as a compliance and risk manager allows me to use my legal knowledge in service of our members every day.”

Schumacher joins the compliance and risk team out of Consumers’ corporate headquarters, The Groves, in Kalamazoo.
